15 Years, New Heads, & Life

Today (as it’s past midnight) is my 15th rez day. I’ve been in Second Life for fifteen years and boy, have I seen some things.

I joined in June of 2005, coming here from a different sort of avatar based chat platform (seducity – does anyone remember that? Lawdy Jesus). Felicity and I were total noobs and of course the avatars looked much different then.

at Ice Dragon’s Playpen – MAN I miss Tringo!

I remember when I discovered live music. It was an amazing special time a few years later, and I fell in love with the scene. Back then there were hardly as many people and boy was the scene different. The talent was amazing, and it was lots of original artists who actually made livings off their sl performances. CQ was one of the ones I grew very close with, and I even managed his career in SL for a while. CQ’s recently come back and boy, am I glad. Our friendship has perservered over years, miles, misunderstandings and mistakes, and I am so proud to call this talented dude friend.

Me, Abi, Britta and Kenda, all at a CQ show together.

I was there for flexi prims, back when there was migration from system layers into sculpted and built items for clothing, and eventually when we evolved into mesh. Well, I take it back. I was on a “hiatus” when mesh actually came out. For a while, though, I was a creator of the cutest flexi clothing a linden could buy. Sweet Treats was born.

This was extra special right?

My life changed when was managing CQ during his second return to Second Life (we’re on the third coming right now, for those of you keeping track). He was performing at a place called Rhi’s Poem, on the Mai Tai Sim. The owner, Meegan, and I became fast friends along with her other right hand woman, Jinx. The three of us became inseparable and my love for them infinite. Jinx migrated from SL for a while, and Rhi’s Poem turned into Rhi’s After Dark, and then eventually moved to Idle Rogue and became an intricate part of that place. But for a while? I was helping run that shit. Then, I got pregnant in real life . . .

Back when the venue was brand spanking new!

After my most recent (which is like four years now) return to Second Life, I took up performing myself, and I still after all these years have amazing love for the Live Music community. You won’t find another group that is more uplifting, more caring, more friendly and ready to help and offer love. Is there drama? Of course. Is there bullshit? You know it. But in the end, the good so so outweighs the bad, and I am happy to be a part of it.

I love the friendships I’ve made here in SL. I love the connections, I love the growth I’ve experienced, and most of all, I love how I’ve grown because of it. I love you guys, and I hope you’ll come through the next 15 with me!

Since it was a special day, I treated myself to a new head since who knows what is going on with Genus. So, earlier today, I bought the Lelutka Nova evolution head and started learning Bakes on Mesh – I think I did ok, what do you think?

Music Inspiration Series – She Just Wants To Be

inspiration for today’s post

I’m gonna admit, I took inspiration to do this series from Trouble Dethly’s moments I regret series he is doing. While I have so many regrettable moments in my life, honestly the most defining things about me are my musical moments. So, I decided to recreate moments from my favorite songs, and the emotions they inspire.

“She Just Wants To Be” by R.E.M. is my first one. This song has been one of my top five defining songs for years. I mean, like most of my adult life. It’s my favorite CD, my favorite band, but this song specifically. “It’s not that she walked away, her world got smaller.” The words are so powerful.

I took that feeling of just wanting to be somewhere, anywhere, the feeling of growing too small where you’re at and feeling the wanderlust take over, and put it into an image. I hope you like it.

Reflections In the Morning

I’ve been on a musical hiatus for about two months, ever since I sliced my fingers open the day after Thanksgiving and had to get stitches. I saw this pose set at Shiny Shabby and was excited, that even if I can’t play in real life I can make it look like I can in SL. I found a little spot on our Idle Rogue community that was set up for quiet reflection and cuddles, and thus this photo was born.

Hit up Uber and I have to say, I find myself buying less and less. But this top was super cute and Sassy has once again killed it. It goes perfect with these pants, and hey – there’s a new mainstore Truth release so you know I had to go cop that real fast.

Today I have to start getting Relay for Life stuff more organized! If you are looking to help out and/or sponsor an event, please let me know!

What Resolution?

I’m trying to lose weight in RL, y’all. I need a knee replacement and before they touch me I gotta lose a ton of weight. However . . . Having a house full the last couple of weeks has proven that to be difficult, because I like cooking for people and barely get to do that when it’s just me and baby man. So I’ve been splurging. Last night I made a bomb lasagna from scratch! Eating leftovers today. So, flipping through all the various food props I have in my inventory today, I decided to take one with this setup to demonstrate how I’m feeling right now, haha

Like I said in my last post I really am not a resolution maker, but I am trying to get some weight off to get my knee fixed. I’m not backsliding, I’m just stalling because I’m giving myself some time to enjoy life with rl. And that’s ok. So as far as my outfit goes, can I just point out how cute this top is? Sassy’s done it again. I love argyle and I have a soft spot for hers, for sure. She’s a genius and you should check out chic moda if you haven’t. Group join fees are super cheap and it’s totally worth it with free gifts nad lucky letters.

Growing Pains

I have been having a crazy RL and between that and trying to keep up with my live music shows in Second Life, I haven’t had a whole lot of time for posting to the blog. I’ve been thinking about maybe making this a collab with one or two other people, but we’ll see. I do have some photo challenge stuff I’m posting soon, so look out for that for sure. This right here was inspired after a series of events. First off, The Arcade dropped on June 1 and while there wasn’t really a whole lot I had to have (and I got super lucky on a lot of plays), this BAMSE SoundX set was something I wanted ALL of it. And I got it!

I got informed that the sim we live on is going beach style after my SL mom’s wedding there, so I started getting my stuff in order for beach themes. That also included putting down a new house. I went with the Redgrave Lakeside after a long time of deliberation and demos. I’m not fully done decorating it yet, but it’s getting there. This was taken in my music room, where I set up my BAMSE set plus a few other random things. I love the way it turned out and just like to spend time there. I know it’s not real recording equipment, but it’s a happy SL space for me and that’s all that matters!

Pairs Well

It’s been a hell of a week, guys. I have been absent from blogging and mostly photo taking in general due to some family stuff RL. My brother and his wife have been trying to have a child for about four years now, going through several miscarriages and spending so much on IVF and they finally got pregnant and past the danger point. Well, my sister in law had to deliver last Friday and at 23 weeks our little Bailey was born. She however caught an infection and passed Sunday evening, April 28. The entire family is crushed and as a parent I can’t even begin to understand how they feel right now. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we try to help this sweet couple put their lives back together as best they can. For the next few weeks, my posts (and online time) will be limited as will my shows.

I am lucky to have my good friend assist me on this photo as I decided I wanted to do a duo one. It features the talented Sassy Nitely’s Chic Moda release that drops today at Fameshed which you should -definitely- treat yourself too. I am waiting another hour and a half until I can treat myself to the rest of fameshed. I already dropped a mini-mint at Gimme Gacha. But that’s the shopping life, right?
